Regional News: Belizean Airplane Hijacked in Flight

  

  A terrifying incident unfolded today over the skies of eastern Belize when a US citizen who had entered the country ilegally via land boarded a Tropic Airlines plane, pulled out a knife and took over the small airplane. The 14 passengers included 2 north American individuals and a child. The hijacker demanded fuel because he wanted to fly straight to the US. When one of the passengers attempted to subdue him the culprit stabbed him. The plane finally touched back down as it ran out of fuel. Upon arrival, a passenger with a licensed gun shot the hijacker in the chest, killing him on the spot. The incident created headline news around the world.      Mennonite businessmen from Orange Walk were the victims of an armed assault in BlackMan Eddy Village, near Spanish Lookout by the Iguana Creek junction. According to a report the Mennonites stopped to refuel their vehicle during which time unkown men approached them and demanded money. One of the victims attempted to flee but was injured from shots fired at him by one of the robbers. He then complied and handed over a bag of money containing several thousand dollars. Salvatore Lopes, Laura Fiorito and their two children Megan (Klassen) Petkau A shooting on Tuesday afternoon in the capital has left surrounding communities reeling and the whole nation of Belize in shock at the absolutely senseless and cold-blooded targeting of a family who were enjoying ice cream near the market square. According to multiple sources, a couple from Agua Viva, a rural community a few miles away from Belmopan which is composed of ex-Mennonites, practicing Mennonites and various immigrants from Europe, were at the marketplace in Belmopan. Foster Child Dies in Spanish Lookout

  Ayana Bennett Moody      Update on Nov. 22    Foster parents Marvin and Lena Plett of Spanish Lookout were formally charged with manslaughter today in the death of 4-year old Ayana Moody which ocurred Friday morning, Nov. 17.
