Danny Mason Found Guilty of Kidnapping Mennonite Couple

  

  In 2016, the gruesome discovery of a severed human head in Danny Mason's vehicle shocked the nation of Belize. As the drama unfolded in the days and weeks that followed the murder investigation it was also found that Mason stood accused of kidnapping Lloyd and Rosie Friesen from Spanish Lookout after they confronted him about a $300,000 scam. Mason and another person kidnapped the couple and demanded $2,500 weekly from the Friesens in exchange for protection.
  Today, nearly 10 years later, Mason was found guilty of kidnapping the Mennonites but not guilty of blackmail. He and his 4 henchmen have already separately been sentenced to life in prison for the horrific murder of Pastor Llewelyn Lucas of Dangriga Town whose head was the one found in a container in Mason's vehicle.

Foster Child Dies in Spanish Lookout

  Ayana Bennett Moody      Update on Nov. 22    Foster parents Marvin and Lena Plett of Spanish Lookout were formally charged with manslaughter today in the death of 4-year old Ayana Moody which ocurred Friday morning, Nov. 17. Belize Facing Unprecedented Power Outages

    They began last month, several random power outages country wide which BEL (Belize Electricity Ltd) declared was caused by the Mexican energy supplier CFE curtailing the flow of electricity to Belize due to a surge in consumer demand in both countries caused by the heatwaves affecting Central America and southern Mexico. Belize consumes an average of 85 megawatts but during peak season that number can climb to 100, far exceeding the local supply provided by our own generators located in the central south as well as the imported amount. To make matters worse, a generator near Belize City is currently out of service due to maintenance which caused a popular tourist town to experience more than 12 hours of power outage last week.
