Measles Outbreak Suspected in Spanish Lookout

  

  After several decades of measles-free status, Belize finally faced its first measles case a few weeks ago after an outbreak in the US. Warnings have been issued by the government regarding precautionary steps to avoid it or seek treatment if suspected of having it.
  Today, a press release was issued by the government again declaring a suspected case(s) in Spanish Lookout as well as outlining travel safety measures and: measles v---------. The V word which can cause Mennonite blood to boil and turn the meek ones into fearsome individuals. Let's see how this plays out over the next few weeks.
  Vaccination....is the word.

Foster Child Dies in Spanish Lookout

  Ayana Bennett Moody      Update on Nov. 22    Foster parents Marvin and Lena Plett of Spanish Lookout were formally charged with manslaughter today in the death of 4-year old Ayana Moody which ocurred Friday morning, Nov. 17. They were then transported to the infamous Belize Central Prison, commonly known as "Hattieville" due its proximity to the village of that name, to await their court hearing which was set for February 15, 2024. _________________________________________________ Nov. 21   As per our article on  18.11.2023 , a couple from Spanish Lookout were arrested on Friday after the sudden and mysterious death of a 4 year old foster girl in their care during the wee hours of Friday morning. Belize Facing Unprecedented Power Outages

    They began last month, several random power outages country wide which BEL (Belize Electricity Ltd) declared was caused by the Mexican energy supplier CFE curtailing the flow of electricity to Belize due to a surge in consumer demand in both countries caused by the heatwaves affecting Central America and southern Mexico. Belize consumes an average of 85 megawatts but during peak season that number can climb to 100, far exceeding the local supply provided by our own generators located in the central south as well as the imported amount. To make matters worse, a generator near Belize City is currently out of service due to maintenance which caused a popular tourist town to experience more than 12 hours of power outage last week.
