Western Dairies Branch Accused of Racism

  Four Garifuna women from Stann Creek District in southern Belize are accusing Western Dairies ( a Mennonite-owned dairy parlor) of racism and unfair treatment after being suddenly terminated from their respective departments when new management was installed. According to them, their letters state the termination but not the reasons for it which has left them visibly upset and claiming that the issue stems from racial discrimination . Their situation was broadcast live on Facebook by the mayor of the town who promised to fully investigate the matter.

     Mennonite businessmen from Orange Walk were the victims of an armed assault in BlackMan Eddy Village, near Spanish Lookout by the Iguana Creek junction. According to a report the Mennonites stopped to refuel their vehicle during which time unkown men approached them and demanded money. One of the victims attempted to flee but was injured from shots fired at him by one of the robbers. He then complied and handed over a bag of money containing several thousand dollars. The robbers then escaped.

Shooting in Belmopan

Salvatore Lopes, Laura Fiorito and their two children Megan (Klassen) Petkau A shooting on Tuesday afternoon in the capital has left surrounding communities reeling and the whole nation of Belize in shock at the absolutely senseless and cold-blooded targeting of a family who were enjoying ice cream near the market square. According to multiple sources, a couple from Agua Viva, a rural community a few miles away from Belmopan which is composed of ex-Mennonites, practicing Mennonites and various immigrants from Europe, were at the marketplace in Belmopan. Along with the couple and their two children was a little girl, the daughter of a friend from the same community. Foster Child Dies in Spanish Lookout

  Ayana Bennett Moody      Update on Nov. 22    Foster parents Marvin and Lena Plett of Spanish Lookout were formally charged with manslaughter today in the death of 4-year old Ayana Moody which ocurred Friday morning, Nov. 17. They were then transported to the infamous Belize Central Prison, commonly known as "Hattieville" due its proximity to the village of that name, to await their court hearing which was set for February 15, 2024. _________________________________________________ Nov. 21   As per our article on  18.11.2023 , a couple from Spanish Lookout were arrested on Friday after the sudden and mysterious death of a 4 year old foster girl in their care during the wee hours of Friday morning.
