Johan Harder, a resident of Neuland currently employed in Spanish Lookout, was shot last weekend in Unitedville. According to sources, it did not appear that he was the intended target. Unfortunately he was hit and was rushed to the hospital where he suffered what many Belizeans are forced to endure: 12 to 24 hours of agony due to a shortage of doctors over the weekend. With no skilled medics around to extract the bullet lodged in his body he was rushed to Guatemala. No more updates have been received since then.
Mennonite businessmen from Orange Walk were the victims of an armed assault in BlackMan Eddy Village, near Spanish Lookout by the Iguana Creek junction. According to a report the Mennonites stopped to refuel their vehicle during which time unkown men approached them and demanded money. One of the victims attempted to flee but was injured from shots fired at him by one of the robbers. He then complied and handed over a bag of money containing several thousand dollars. The robbers then escaped.
